Charles Gillmore, per Lord Sidmouth, Assigned to Peter Wilson, resident District of Cooke. Remarks, Airds Road Party. ------------------------------------------------------------- GILMORE, Charles 1823 Sep 8 Accused of stealing cattle (Reel 6058; 4/1769 p.166a) -------------------- Extract from letter: … of various robberies, and of the persons by whom they were made; but there are some characters connected in the transaction, who stand more recent (?), for want of further evidence than a co? Wish, or than their vile practices entitle them to - A person named by James, in his general detail of the bare proceedings, was deeply implicated in them, and knows the whole. His name is Charles Gilmore, Government servant to one Peter Wilson, of Myrtle Creek. On the disclosure made by James, this man absconded, and although every effort has been made by me, to apprehend him, he has been successful enough to elude detection. His character is bad; but should he be taken his evidence, which it is supposed he wants to give, might be of most extensive usefulness. Feeling most anxious to arrive at the “Ne plus rettre” (?) of this black business through all its ramifications, I must respectfully beg leave to re… -------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Gillmore was posted as an absconded prisoner until at least January 1825.

Charles Gillmore, alias John Broadfoot, Lord Sidmouth (2), 27, County Down, 5 ft. 4 inches high, hazel eyes, brown hair, fresh florid comp., Mr. P. Wilson, Myrtle Creek.
