Hulk Records HO-9-1-3. Chatham Hulks. (Page 13/44) Received from Stafford Gaol, 15 May 1826 Wm. Broster, age 17, House breaking, Convicted at Stafford, 9 Mar 1826, Life, To NSW 17 Sept 1826.


His MORETON BAY record reads: 1826, 9 March: Convicted at Stafford Assizes for house breaking, life; labourer. 1828, 19 July: Convicted Goulburn General Sessions for robbery and absconding and sentenced to three years. 1828, September: Arrived at Moreton Bay per Borodino; age 20. While at the settlement he absconded twice – in April and September 1831 – and was at large for a total of 115 days. As a result, he was sentenced to a further 12 months to a penal settlement on 30 August, 1830, to commence at the expiration of his last sentence. 1832, 1 September: William BROSTER was returned to Sydney (see Kenneth J Lamb, Canberra 2013, Moreton Bay Convict Runaways database).
