Prisoner discharged from HM Gaol during the week of the 13 Dec 1871 & 9 Dec 1871. David Brown, per Hyderabad 1, F.S., tried at Oatlands, on the 13 Nov 1871, for begging, served 1 month, native place Edinburgh, 57 yrs, 5 feet 11 inches high, greyish hair, J.W. right arm. Tasmania Police Gazette, 15th Dec 1871, p202. Return of person to gaol, convicted during the week ending 16 March 1872. David Browne, per Hyderabad 1, F.S., tried at Launceston, for larceny, received 3 months, native place is Edinburgh, a baker, age 58 yrs, 5 feet 1 3/4 inches high, formally of Launceston. Tasmania Police Gazette, 22nd Mar 1872, p51. Prisoner discharged from HM Gaols & Houses of Correction, Hobart Town & Launceston, during the week ending, 15 June & 19 June 1872. The Scotsman newspaper 17 July 1844 p 3 on 'High Court of Justiciary reported: David Brown, teacher, pleaeded guilty to the commission of an atrocious offence and was sentenced to transportation for 14 years. The prisoner afterwards attempted to commit suicide by suffocation, when being conveyed from the Court in the prison van, but was detected before able to accomplish the act.
