Between the years of 1817 and 1820 Frances and her children lived and worked at the Parramatta Female Factory.

France Brown was from Liverpool. On the 25th of April 1815 she was sentenced to “transportation to some part beyond the seas for the space of seven years” for felony. Frances Brown was sent to Australia on the Lord Melville in August 1816. She arrived on the 24th of February 1817 with her baby daughter, Mary. On the 6 Mar 1820 , at age 26 she was granted permission to marry Thomas Shaw, and they were married at St Johns Church of England, Parramatta on the 12th June 1820. By the time of the 1828 census Frances (34) was listed as being married to Thomas Shaw (45) and having 6 children: Mary Brown (15), Joseph Brown (10), Thomas Shaw (8), John Shaw (4), Anne Shaw (3) and James Shaw (5 months). Frances died in 1835 at the age of 41.
