n.b. There are 3 John Brown's on this voyage of the 'Sir Robert Peel'. John Brown was convicted at Somerset 8 July 1844 for stealing from the person. 10 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per 'Sir Robert Peel' arriving 26 Dec 1844. Aged 55yrs; labourer; 5'9 1/4"; Protestant; can read & write; single. Has been a soldier - 3rd Foot Guards. Native Place - Hipfield, near Lewes, Sussex. 15 mths Probation Period. Broadmarsh. Admitted to hospital at New Norfolk. Died, in hospital.
