Hulk Records. HO-9-4_2 page 20/49 Woolwich Hulks, (Prudentia, Retribution and Justitia) Received 16 Jan 1817. John Brown, alias Scott, age 30, Theft, Tried Ayr 24 Sep 1816, NSW 7 years, Transported 28 June 1817.
The Glasgow Herald of 7 October, 1816, carries the following item under the heading CIRCUIT INTELLIGENCE - Ayr - September 26 "John Brown, alias Scott, and John Elliot, were brought to the bar, and were charged with the commission of two acts of theft from the house of William Crawford, innkeeper in Saltcoats; and a public house in Dalry. Both pannels having pleaded guilty, they received sentences of banishment for seven years." Saltcoats and Dalry are both towns in the County of Ayr (Ayrshire).
