Familly connectiond for Mary (Brown) may be: BROWN A.Mary (Brown) was born about 1777 & became a servant. She was tried w/Ann (Tracey) for assault of William (Whitnell) in house of Ann (Tracey) & stealing hat crockery etc at Old Bailey on 2 12 1795, sentenced to death respited to Life, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 18 7 1798 after a voyage of 6.5months on BRITANNIA; she was 4'11" black hair brown eyes. She was Free by Servitude by 1807. She was issued her Certificate of Freedom no.249 on 31 1 1814. She was tried for stealing, on 26 8 1796, shoes etc of Jno (Tibbetts) at Old Bailey on 14 9 1796, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 18 7 1798 after a voyage of 6.5months on BRITANNIA. She married William (Goodwin) on 17 6 1799 at St Johns CofE Parramatta & produced 6children in 1803 to perhaps 1821. He was tried for stealing beef of Joseph (Hubberd) at Stamford Borough General Quarter Sessions Lincolnshire, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 14 2 1792 after a voyage of 8.5months on PITT. He was Free by Servitude by 1803. He was a constable when he died on 14 12 1826 age58 & was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney. ..[Some details taken from this Website] One of these Mary (Brown)s had a relationship with George (Clarke) & produced 4children in 1799 to 1807. George (Clarke) was born about 1768 in Paris & became a shoemaker. He was tried w/1other for theft, on 29 11 1791, lead off the house of Thomas (Masters) at Old Bailey on 7 12 1791 (quick justice), sentenced to Life/7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict in 1797 or on 7 10 1792 after a voyage of 6months on ROYAL ADMIRAL. Trial; 2 December 1795 Native Place; London Calling; Servant Age; 30 years ** as per register Height; 4 ft 11in, Black hair and Brown eyes Proceedings of the Old Bailey 1795 - 2 December 1795. Tried at Old Bailey, London. Accused of robbery (that they, in and upon William Whitnell , did make an assault in the dwelling-house of the said Ann Tracey , putting him in fear, and taking from his person, and against his will, a man's hat, value 6s. a linen apron, value 4d. six cups and saucers, value 1s. 6d. an iron shovel, value 1s. and a tinder-box, value 6d.). Found guilty. Sentenced to death. 1795 - 15 December 1795. Tried at Old Bailey, London (ob*). Accused of assaulting & robbing Wm Whitnell in a dwelling house etc., assault. & robbing. Wm. Withnell in a dwelling house etc.. Death Sentence respited; 19th February 1796. Age 19. Sentence outcome was transported. Convicted with Ann Tracey on board
