Samuel would appear to have formed a liaison with Charlotte Garside somewhere around 1821. Charlotte was actually married at that time to Samuel Garside, the son of Samuel Garside (Convict; Pitt, 1792) and Sarah Turner (Convict; Indispensible, 1796). Charlotte was herself, the daughter of Edward Pugh (FF Convict; Friendship, 1788) and Hannah Smith (FF Convict; Charlotte, 1788). Samuel and Charlotte had two children, Samuel Brownett 1822 and Charlotte Brownett 1827.
