Convict Notes

He came to Australia as a Labourer but eventually became an Engineer. Although originally starting in York he ended up settled in Jarrahdale WA. He is buried in the local cemetery along with many descendents. His grandsons Benjamin Sylvanus and John Buckland served in WW1 - where John was killed and has a plaque dedicated to him on the Mennin Gate. An account of Ben's wife and early memories of Sylvanus is held in tape form at the Battye Library in WA. I am reasonably certain Sylvanus had other brothers who may have been transported also....and although this record mentions only a silver watch I believe there is more to the story. I have corrected the record as his Christian name was misspelt. I am Benjamin's grandson and direct descendent of Sylvanus. His prisoner number was 1808 I believe.

Stole a silver watch in Bath Somerset. Remained in Australia, married and had 6 children
