The following report may explain the manslaughter /rape question, BUT, the offence was tried at Cork, not at Clare. This is supported by the entry in the Convict Index: Jerimiah Buckley, per Governor Ready, ticket of Leave, No 37/319. District, Evan; Tried, Cork Co. I have changed the place of trial to Cork, accordingly. Cork Assizes. Jeremiah Buckley, for the murder of Catherine Maher, at Carrigaline, on 22d December. deceased caught the prisoner attempting to violate the person of her daughter, a child of four years old, and. was pursuing him to have him take into custody; her mother joined in the pursuit, and deposed that they threw stones at and struck him with them, when he struck deceased with a stone which killed her.—Guilty of Manslaughter. The Chief Baron, in sentence on him, remarked, that the verdict was most merciful, and as the case was as aggravated a one as ever came before him, he visit it with punishment accordingly. To be transported for life. Dublin Morning Register, 8 April 1828.

The Australian Indentures state that Jeremiah Buckley was 20 years old. He was a native of County Cork; religion Catholic; status: single and he ploughs and reaps. He could not read or write. He was convicted of rape on 8 March 1828 at Clare and sentenced to life. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes - Height 5 feet 5 inches; complexion ruddy and freckled: hair brown and eyes blue. Transport number 78. He was assigned to Mr R. B. Lethbridge, Parramatta. Received his ticket of leave in 1837 (number 73/39). PLEASE NOTE that the Ireland Lieutenant Warrant records state that Jeremiah Buckley was sentenced for the offence of manslaughter. The indentures state that the offence is rape. This offence should be checked. The offence is stated as per the Australia Convict Indentures which I have used for all other convicts.
