Per "Admiral Gambier", 1811 1817 Dec 12 Petition for mitigation of sentence (Fiche 3175; 4/1850 pp.43-43a) 12/12/1817. Petition for Mitigation of sentence. Marked T.L. The humble petition of William Bull, Most Respectfully sheweth That Petitioner arrived in the Colony in the Transport Ship Admiral Gambier 2nd, 1811, under Sentence of Transportation for Life. That on his arrival he was assigned to John Brennan of Caddie, since which he has lived with Mr James Davidson of Portland Head, with whom he has lived upwards of five years, and during such servitude has behaved honestly, soberly & industriously. He therefore humbly presumes to solicit Your Excellency to be graciously pleased to take into your humane consideration his good character and the severe sentence under which he labors and grant him such mitigation thereof as to your Excellency shall deem meet. And Petitioner will ever pray, &c. William Bull. I hereby certify that the Petitioner has lived with me for the period he … and behaved much to my satisfaction. (Signed) Jas. Davison. We certify to His Excellency the Governor, that Petitioner is to the best of our knowledge, sober, honest and industrious and agreeable to His Excellency’s direction on that lead we beg leave to recommend him for a Ticket of Leave.12 Feb 1817.
