Text type Trial account Defendants TIMOTHY BURGESS Offences Theft > Theft from place Session Date 14th December 1846 Reference Number t18461214-298 Verdicts Guilty Punishments Transportation 298. TIMOTHY BURGESS was indicted for stealing 1 copper, value 14s.; the goods of Walter Elliott; and fixed to a building.—2nd COUNT, not stating it to be fixed. WALTER ELLIOTT . I am a leather-cutter, and live in Bedfordbnry. On Monday evening, the 7th of Dec., I missed a copper from my kitchen—it was safe half an hour before—this copper produced is mine, and the one I missed. SAMUEL HART . I am a marine-store dealer. On Monday night, the 7th of Dec, I bought this copper of the prisoner—I am sure of it. Prisoner's Defence, I had had a drop of drink, and was asked to sell the copper by a man who I did not know. GUILTY .** Aged 23.— Transported for Seven Years.
