William Burgess was transported on the Waterloo, departing 21st May 1836 and arriving 6th Sep 1836 with 220 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

Convict Notes
The Convict indentures state that William Burgess was 19 years old. He could read and write; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of County Monaghan. His occupation was a cooper's boy (there is no occupation code for this exact occupation). William was convicted of stealing a watch at Dublin on 1 March 1836 and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 4 3/4 inches; complexion freckled; hair sandy flaxen and eyes grey. Transport number 59. Prisoner number 36-1864. Received ticket of leave in 1841 (number 41/1482). Received Certificate of Freedom in 1843 (number 43/536).
