Cheshire Epiphany Sessions. George Burghall and Henry Spencer, charged with entering an inclosure belonging to D. Poole, Esq. in Marbury, on the 8th of December, for the purpose of killing game; Mr. Cottingham, for the prosecution, called Joseph  Thomas, Mr. Poole's gamekeeper, who deposed that about eight o'clock in the evening, he went in company with three others, towards a close called the Glebe; he heard no less than 40 shots fired from 11 to 2 o'clock. His party had no arms, being only accompanied by a dog ; they saw three men, and Spencer presented his gun, saying several times, “b...st your eyes, stand off. The dog was then let loose and he seized Spencer, who called to one of his companions to stick him ; Burghall came up and was secured . …. Chester Chronicle, 25 Jan 1828. National Archives.
