ADM 101/45/1 1819-1820 Diary for the Lord Wellington female convict ship sailing from England to New South Wales, covering 27 April 1819 to 27 January 1820, by Edward Foord Bromley, MD, Surgeon, Royal Navy and Superintendent of Convicts. (Described at item level) Folio 9: September [1819] commenced with very fine weather, but brought with it about a dozen cases of slight scurvy, which easily yielded to an additional quantity of lemon juice being given to each woman that complained. Since leaving the Grand Canary lemon juice and sugar made into sherbet has been regularly served every day to each woman and child and which I am of opinion has been of great service to them. Folio 9: [September 1819] The following women had slight symptoms of scurvy. Ellen Saunders, aged 44, taken ill, 4 September 1819; Cath Grady, aged 42, taken ill, 5 September 1819; Bridget Dooling, aged 22, taken ill, 3 September 1819; Catherine Barrett, aged 14, taken ill, 2 September 1819; Joanne Dunne, aged 24, taken ill, 2 September 1819; Elizabeth Cashman, aged 40, taken ill, 3 September 1819; Mary Burke, aged 26, taken ill, 4 September 1819.

Details of the case for which Mary was sent to Moreton Bay. John Douglass was indicted for stealing from the Stores of A. B. Spark, Esq., a quantity of wine, value £20, at Sydney, on the 10th December, 1830 ; and Mary Casey for receiving part of the property, well knowing it to have been feloniously stolen. It appeared, that Douglass was an assigned servant to Mr. Spark, by which means he had access to the stores, and committed the robbery in question. Both prisoners were found guilty and remanded. Sydney Herald, 23 May 1831. Monday, June 27.—The Judges having taken their seats in banco, the following prisoners received judgment :— John Douglass, for stealing some wine, the property of A. B. Spark, Esq.—to he transported for 3 years ; and Mary Casey, for receiving part of the same—to be transported for 7 years. Sydney Herald, 4 July 1831.
