Convict Notes
James Burton was 21 years old on arrival and was transported, along with Robert Sayward/Seward, on the same ship, for stealing a plate and some wearing apparel etc. James was 5'6" tall, brown hair and eyes, single, C of E, and could read and write, and his native place was Bristol. 23/9/185: James was convicted of another Larceny, under £5 and was sent to Port Arthur for 2 years. By 1853 he was assigned to Mr Kellaway, there were many punishments for disobedience and being drunk etc., and the last onte on his conduct record - absconded Alpril, 1855. James applied to marry Norah Sheen who was born in Tasmania in 1833, and were apparently married in Launceston in 1854.
