Convict Notes
Criminal Court Thos. and Wm, Burton, and Wm. Nobes were indicted for stealing a quantity of pigeons from the dove-cot of Thomas Barker. Thos. Burton was also indicted with his father, John Burton, for stealing two pigs from John Young, of Harwich. The case was of very common order, and the jury found Thomas Burton guilty of both offences—Wm. Burton and Wm. Nobes the first offence—and acquitted John Burton. Thomas Burton was sentenced to 7 years’ transportation for the first offence; at the conclusion of that sentence, a further 7 years’ for the second offence; Wm. Burton and Wm Nobes, 7 years’ transportation. Norwich Mercury, 22 March 1828.
