Thomas Bustard was a 20yr. old labourer from an intact Donegal family. In VDL he was convicted of neglect of duty, being awol and refusing to work. He was sentenced to hard labour and solitary confinement. He died in 1854 still under sentence.




Thomas, and his brother Adam, Bustard were tried at Donegal on 21 July 1848 for sheep stealing. 7 yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Lord Auckland' arriving 29 Jan 1853. Single; labourer; 5'4"; aged 21yrs. Native place - Donegal, Ireland. 1853: Prison Barracks, Hobart. Constable. 5 Sept 1854: Ticket of Leave 20 Nov 1854: in hospital 27 Nov 1854: died, in hospital.
