Despite his short life in the colony and sudden death from a lightening strike while attending a Protestant service, Philip Butler made a strong impression on Roman Catholic clergy, John Therry and Daniel Power. Philip Butler was appointed the first schoolmaster at the Liverpool (NSW) Roman Catholic School by Dr Daniel Power in 1827.
