Assizes. At Winchester, eleven prisonersĀ received sentence of death, viz. Richard Geo. Williams, for forging an order to obtain King's provisions tor the Pouncer gun-brig; William Knight, George Lomax, and Joseph Atkins (soldiers) for robbing the Bishop's Waltham mail, Morestead-hill, near Winchester; William Freeman, for rape; Jas. Leverett and Peter McGuire, for highway-robberies; Abraham Everard and John Button, for horse stealing; Benjamin Noyes, Noyes, for sheep stealing; and William Seward, for maliciously cutting several hop binds growing on poles at Shalden. The five former are left for execution Chester Courant, 28 July 1801.
