Charles Byrne was transported on the Waterloo, departing 21st May 1836 and arriving 6th Sep 1836 with 220 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

The convict indentures state that Charles Byrne died at the General Hospital in Sydney on 9 October 1836. Transport number 63. Prisoner number 36-1868. Warrants of the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland state that Charles Byrne was convicted of cow stealing on 9 October 1835 at Kildare and sentenced to life. Charles was 49 years old. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 7 1/2 inches; complexion fresh; hair grey and eyes hazel.
