On Thursday arrived from Calcutta, via Derwent, the ship Mary, Captain Ormon, with a various cargo. -Passengers from Calcutta, Captain Faithfull and Lieutenant Hamilton:-The Mary sailed from Calcutta the 23d of February, and left the Pilot the 1st of March. 1819, 25 August: George BYRNE – convicted Waterford Co, Lent 1817; 7 years; native place Kilkenny; gardener’s boy; 25, 5’1”; fair sallow complexion, brown hair and hazel eyes (see NSW Convict Indents, 1788-1842; Bound Indentures 1818-1819).
1824, 4 March: George BYRNE – Certificate of Freedom #45/1912 – labourer; 27, 5’0½”, sallow complexion, brown and thin hair, hazel eyes; native place Kilkenny. Remarks: “Ticket of Leave No 10/944 deposed to be lost” (see NSW, Australia, Certificates of Freedom, 1810-1814, 1827-1867). Note: The age on this record, suggesting a birth year of about 1797, does not agree with his date of birth as per the Convict Indents of 1819.
