Westmoreland Ship's Medical record. Patrick Byrne. Aged; 19 years old Disease; Scrofula admitted to the ship's Hospital 25 May 1838. From the surgeon's notes; "has been afflicted with the disease from infancy .... Sent to Sydney Hospital from the ship. Scrofula is the term used for lymphadenopathy of the neck, usually as a result of an infection in the lymph nodes known as lymphadenitis. It can be caused by tuberculous or nontuberculous mycobacteria.
