On Saturday the 24th ult. the assize for the city and county of Coventry was opened before Mr. Justice Heath, one of the justices of, the Court of Common Pleas, Henry Cadman, convicted of robbing the tenter of Mr. Wm. Twyoral, of that city, dyer, wait, ordered to be transported for seven years; Aris’s Birmingham Gazette, 2 April 1787. -------------------------------------------------------------- From the Police.—Public-Office, Bow-street, July, 1787. ESCAPED from the Hulks at Woolwich, two convicts under sentence of transportation, viz. JOHN SUTCLIFF, from Durham, 21 years old, five feet seven inches high, stout made, swarthy complexion, a little pitted with the small pox, has strait black hair, loose upon his shoulders; he was a travelling man, attends races and fairs, with garter for people to prick in, a private soldier in the Kth regiment of foot. - HENRY CADMAN from Coventry, is 38 years old, five feet two inches and an half high, swarthy complexion, short brown hair, much pitted with the small pox, had a thicklet coat, very old, and fustian breeches, with a dirty buff coloured waistcoat. Cumberland Pacquet, 18 July 1787 --------------------------------------------------------------- With singular Satisfaction we inform the Public, that Consequence of the unremitting Pains and unwearied Endeavours of John Hewitt, Esq; Alderman of this City, (Coventry) those two notorious and most dangerous Villains, Thomas Cottam and Henry Cadman (the latter, and one Sutcliff, now in Prison, made their Escape from the Hulk last Summer) were last Week apprehended at Birmingham and Wolverhampton, and immediately conveyed here under strong Guard where they both underwent short Examination before the said Magistrate, and were by him committed to the Gaol in this City, Cottam on Saturday, and Cadman Yesterday Morning. Northampton Mercury, 16 Feb 1788. ------------------------------------------------------------- We are happy to inform the Public, that on Friday last was apprehended at Wolverhampton, by the Activity and Vigilance of John Orton, one of the Constables of this City, under the Direction of W. Spell, Esq; one of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and for the said City and County, Thomas Hall, late of Stourbridge, in the County of Worcester, Yeoman, and was the same Evening carried before the above Magistrate, and by him committed to our Gaol for farther Examination, being, charged on a strong Suspicion of being concerned with Thos. Cottam, Benjamin Pritchard, Henry Cadman, (all now in the said Gaol) and Benjamin Smith, not yet apprehended, in the burglariously breaking into the Warehouse of Meffrs. Elliott and Co. situate within the Parifli of St. Michael, in this City, and feloniously stealing. taking, and carrying away therefrom sundry Pieces of Ribbon, the Property of the said Messrs. Elliott and Co. and since his Commitment we hear that he is retained by two other Warrants from Mr Alderman Hewitt, whereby he is charged on suspicion of divers other Burglaries and Felonies.
