John Cadman's gravestone is now located in the Pioneer Memorial Park, Sydney.
John Cadman was convicted at Worcester on 09/12/1747 for horse stealing. Life sentence. Transported to New South Wales, Australia on the ship 'Barwell'. He was aged 25yrs and had been a Publican in England. John was stationed at Sydney. in 1809 he was coxswain of a government boat. By 1825 he was Master of the cutter 'Mars'. He was then promoted to Superintendent of government boats in Sydney. He retired 1845. Conditional Pardon 1814. Free Pardon 1821. John Cadman obtained permission to marry (ref. NSW reg BDM)Elizabeth Drew Mortimer (transported on the 'Competitor' 1828 - stealing offence)in 1830. Wife Elizabeth Mortimer had 2 daughters, born in England, Elizabeth Ellen & Charlotte Phoebe. John Cadman is recorded in the 1828 Census in Sydney (aged 52yrs). The Cadman's occupied a cottage at the Rocks district of Sydney - one of the oldest houses in that area. John Cadman died 12/11/1848 and is buried at the Devonshire St. Cemetery, Sydney.
