The convict indentures state that Thomas Calnon was 38 or 58 or 30 years old. He could neither read or write; religion Catholic; status married with 7 children and a native of County Cork. He was a shepherd and labourer. He was convicted of cow stealing on 2 April 1828 in Cork and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height - 5 feet 8 inches; complexion ruddy; hair dark brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 101. He was assigned to Mr J. Walker, Bathurst. It is difficult to determine his age because the Warrants of the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland state age as 58 years old and the Convict Indentures which are written over and may be interpreted as 30, 35 or 38 years old!
