National Records of Scotland Trial papers of Malcolm Gillespie, lately officer of excise, and lately residing at Crombie Cottage, parish of Skene, county of Aberdeen, George Brownie, crofter, lately at Blackhills, parish of Skene, and Alexandrina Campbell, lately residing at Crombie Cottage, all now or lately prisoners in the tolbooth of Aberdeen, for the crime of wilful fire raising. Dates 29 September 1827 Pled guilty art and part to the first charge of fire raising, but ignorant of any any intention to defraud the Fire Insurance. Sentenced to transportation beyond the seas for 7 years. Malcolm Gillespie not identified in Minute Book - no details available of pleading, verdict, and sentence. **Malcolm Gillespie was hung in November 1827 for the crime of 'Forgery'. George Brownie/Crofter arrived VDL per Bengal Merchant 1828. Alexandrina Cambell was listed as being 30 years old on arrival in VDL - she was 5'3" tall, fair complexion, light brown hair, hazel eyes, scar inside mid finger left hand, mole on right cheek bone, reads and writes - Single lived last with Malcolm Gillespie who was executed for Forgery, I was 13 years in the Family, I educated his children & after the death of his family I was House keeper. Native Place: Harries, Ross Shire. 31/1/1830: Permission to marry William Bryan (Asia 1824) 5/4/1830: Married in the Parish of Bothwell and registered in New Norfolk. 1832 Muster: Assigned to Mr. Margello 28/11/1835: Husband William Bryan died at Port Arthur. Nothing on Conduct Record until:- 20/11/1873: Hobart, Idle and disorderly, 3 months hard labour. 18/4/1874: Listed as Caroline Woodward, Idle and disorderly, 3 monbths Hard labour. Many more instances of Vagrancy and Idle and Disorderly in Hobart, Campbell Town - last one in Hobart 26/9/1882 all under the name of 'Woodward'. 12/12/1884: There is a death listed on /linctas.ent.sirsidynix.net.au/client/en_AU/all/search/results?qu=caroline&qu=woodward# for a Caroline Woodward/or phillips who died at the New Town Pauper Establishment, aged 78, of Paralysis, a needle woman.
