Eliza Campbell was convicted at Tyrone on 2/7/1849 for stealing meat. 10yr transportation sentence. Previous offence for stealing fowls. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Blackfriar' arriving 1851. Gaol Report: very good Aged 38yrs; married - husband William McDonald (prison sentence for 10yrs); 3 children (accompanied her board ship - Ann 11yrs, Ellen 8yrs, Alexander 5yrs); can read; country servant; Protestant. Sisters: Mary - in Ireland; Margaret, Jane & Ann all in America. Assignments of service in Colony. 1852: John Powell, Morven (now k/a Evandale) Application for Permission to Marry: to John Philpott (free) 5/4/1853. Recommended, if Clergyman satisfied. Refused. 24/12/1853 to Thomas Bravington (free). Did not proceed. 11/4/1854 to John Barton. Recommended, if Clergyman satisfied. Married 09/05/1854 John Barton 06/06/1854 Morven district (Evandale) ref. 1188/1854-37. Newspaper report 3/10/1857 Launceston Examiner of Mrs. Eliza Barton being a witness to a robbery at the house she was staying at. John & Eliza Barton listed as a Colonial Family.
