28/3/1835 Tipperary Free Press Tipperary, Republic of Ireland: The following prisoners were then put on their trial: Pat. Heffernan, James Cantwell, Pierce Cantwell, James Heffernan, William Delany, and Richard Stapleton, for the murder of Constable Feely, at Bailynonty. James was found guilty of 'Manslaughter' and was transported for 7 years. His brother Pierce, was transported for life. James was 20 years old on arrival, he was single. the son of Thomas Cantwell and Judith Laffan. 1840: TOL Port Stephens. 10/2/1842: TOL Passport, on the recommendsation of Captain King. 26/3/1842: COF. 1861: James died at Maitland, NSW.
