Convict Notes

He was born in 1762, and married to Catherine Malone in 1791. He was arrested on 19th January 1809 for stealing a bridle and saddle and was in Kilmainham Gaol He was tried in Dublin in March 1807 and sentenced to death. On appeal from family and friends, because he was drunk and picked up the wrong one he was given life in Australia. Francis is registered on Portsmouth Prison Hulk ship list.. He is registered in the 1809 NSW Convict list as arriving on the Boyd. His fourth child, third son was born on 27th May 1807, my 2nd great grandfather. In 1828 census he is in Melville and there is a death record for him in Castlereagh Burial Ground. On your site he is listed as Protestant but that is the person below him. He was Roman Catholic. There is another record in 1841 for a Francis Carberry in Willongong NSW but I believe this to be a different Francis Carberry.
