George CAREY (or FRENCH) was convicted at Kent for stealing clothes. Previous offence. 15 yr transportation sentence - to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Barossa' 1844. Ship Surgeon's Report: "good". Farm labourer & hop grower; single; can read; aged 22yrs; Protestant. Native place - Chislett, Canterbury. Mother: Hannah Brothers: Thomas, William & James Sisters: Sarah, Martha, Ruth, Caroline & Amelia 2 yrs Probation Period in VDL. Rocky Hills Station Gang. 17 Aug 1852: Ticket of leave 29 Aug 1854: Conditional Pardon 3 Jan 1859: Certificate of Freedom
