1828, 7 May: Alexander Carmichael, listed as 17, was sent from Perth and received aboard the prison hulk Justitia at Woolwich. He was sent from there on 7 July for transportation (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). 1828: On arrival in VDL, he was listed as a boilermaker from Perth, aged 19 and single. He said he last worked for Captain Moore. His father, Alexander Carmichael Snr, was in Glasgow and worked for Mr McArthur. 1836, 16 November: Ticket of Leave. 1842: Free Certificate No.425 (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-6$init=CON31-1-6p311).


1828, 10 April: Thomas Miller, 13, an umbrella maker of Glasgow and ALEXANDER CARMICHAEL, 15, a boiler maker, also of Glasgow, were tried in the High Court at Perth for theft by housebreaking. Both confessed to the crime. Thomas Miller was sentenced to imprisonment for 12 months, but Alexander Carmichael was sentenced to transportation for 14 years (see National Records of Scotland; Reference JC26/1828/137).
