The humble Petition of James Carmichael, Dutifully States that your petitioner is nearly five years in this Colony with an unimpeachable character as will apparently a reference to the Certificate hereunto annexed. Therefore your petitioner most humbly solicits your Excellency to take his case into consideration and Grant him such Indulgence as you may think fit. And your petitioner humbly states to your Excellency that his first master with whom he remained two years and three months, but his being inhumanely murdered prevented your petitioner from having his signature to the certificate above mentioned. May your Excellency be pleased to look over his said Certificate and he trusts it will be satisfactory of this statement for which Indulgence your Petitioner as in duty bound will ever pray.
