Convict Notes

At the general quarter sessions of the peace for Wilts, held last week at Devizes, James Carpenter, and John Grist for stealing half a bag of white flour out of the millhouse of John Colin, of Sutton Veney; and Isaac Giles, for stealing a ladder from Simon Pain, were ordered to be transported for seven years. Bath Chronicle, 24 Jan 1788 According to the NSW Early Convict index, there appears to be some confusion over the ship in which James Carpenter was transported, Salamander or Neptune.
