Limerick Assizes. THE COUNTY LIMERICK COURT. To be executed the 20th of April—Edmond Carroll for the forcible violation of Margaret Naughten at Ballingolee. Southern Reporter, 25 March 1828. This day, the following prisoners, sentenced at the Assizes, were transmitted under an escort of the 37th Regiment, to the Hulk Surprise at Cove:— Edward Carroll, for Rape; James Blake, Horse stealing; William Daly, Larceny ; Martin Ryan, same ; John Connors, Pig stealing ; Michael Mara, Thomas Hayes, John Ward, Patrick Callaghan, Mathew Callaghan, and Jeremiah Sullivan, all for Larceny ; Denis Gorman, Pig stealing.  Limerick Evening Post, 6 May 1828.

The convict indentures state that Edmond Carroll was 29 years old. He could neither read or write; religion Catholic; status married with 2 children and a native of Limerick. He was a farmer. He was convicted of rape on 15 March 1828 at Limerick and sentenced to life. He had 2 prior convictions. Physical attributes - Height: 5 feet 4 inch; complexion sallow and pock pitted; hair brown and eyes dark hazel. Transport number 166. He was assigned to John Busby, Sydney. Received a ticket of leave in 1844 (number 44/2732). There was a note that stated above this number Norfolk Island.
