John CARROLL was convicted at Wicklow, Ireland on 3 Jan 1848 for sheep stealing. 10yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Neptune' arriving 5 April 1850. Aged 35yrs; farmer's labourer; married - wife Alice; Roman Catholic; can read & write. Native Place - Co. Wicklow, Ireland. 6mth Probation - at Cascades, south Hobart. No records of any misconduct. Conditional Pardon granted 16 July 1850.
