The convict indentures states that Michael Carroll was 30 years old. He could neither read nor write; religion Roman Catholic; status married with 2 sons and 2 daughters and a native of County Tipperary. He was a farm servant. Michael was convicted of pig stealing at Tipperary on 28 December 1835 and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior conviction. Physical attributes: height 5 feet 8 inches; complexion dark sallow and freckled; hair brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 163. Prisoner number 36-1966.
NSW 1837 General Census states that Michael Carroll was assigned to 1) Government Service in Sydney and ii) to Mr Brooks at Bangonia, near Goulburn NSW.
Received ticket of leave on 8 October 1840 (number 40/2094) in the district of Liverpool. Ticket of leave passport issued on 8 April 1842 (number 42/1000) states that Michael allowed to remain in the district of Sydney (not town) for so long as he remains in the employment of Mr R. Crampton at his farm on Parramatta Road.
Received Certificate of Freedom on 29 December 1842 (number 42/2213).
