The Convict Indentures state that Johanna Carty was 22 years old. She could read; religion Roman Catholic; status single with 1 daughter and a native of County Wicklow. she was a house maid. Johanna was convicted of stealing money at County Wicklow on 4 January 1837 and sentenced to 7 years. She had one prior conviction and served 3 months. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 3 1/2 inches; complexion ruddy and freckled; hair brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 72. Prisoner number 72-38. Please note that Johanna's first name was printed as Johannn on the Indenture entry. Application to marry Patrick Flannagan granted on 29 September 1840. Application submitted by Rev. F. Murphy, Sydney. Patrick Flannagan, aged 34, was transported on Mangles (4) and served a sentence of 7 years. He was free in 1840. Johanna status was bond.
