Bridget CASSIDY was convicted at Monaghan, Ireland on 5 March 1849 for stealing two quilts. Previous offences. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Australasia' arriving 29 Sept 1849. Aged 19yrs; single; nurse maid; 5'1 3/4"; can read; Roman Catholic. Native Place: Co. Monaghan, Ireland. Father: John, at native place. Various work service assignments including at Ross, Avoca, Campbell Town, Morven (Evandale) and time at the Female Factories of Ross and Hobart. 12 March 1853: Delivered of a child, at the Female Factory, Ross, Tasmania. 16 Aug 1854: Application for Permission to marry - William Green Griffiths. Does not appear to have proceeded. 12 Sept 1855: Absconded. Transportation sentence extended by 3 mths. Certificate of Freedom issued. Child: Elizabeth CASSIDY Admitted to Queens Orphanage, New Town, nr Hobart on 24 Nov 1854 aged 1 yr 8 mths. Mother - Bridget Cassidy per 'Australasia'. In 1862 gained 1st prize in 4th class Education & 1863 prize for needlework. Discharged to the care of her mother, now residing at Table Cape (north west Tasmania) on 12 Aug 1863. (Ref. SW6 & 28). Marriage: 10 Feb 1857 at the dwelling house of George Ramskell, Table Cape, Horton district, according to Church of England rites, Bridget CASSIDY aged 27, spinster to Thomas BREWSTER aged 31.
