William was 39 years old on arrival in VDL and was transported for "Breaking a window and stealing waistcoating". He commented "I committed this offence to get sent out". Surgeons Report Character: Very good, overseer of a division. William was 5'6 1/4" tall, could read and write, single, RC, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, reddish whiskers, oval face, hazel eyes, large nose. Mother Jane at native place (Dublin). 11 Hussars 17 years. Remarks: Has been soldier, left ankle dislocated, breast hairy, stout made, scar over right eye. 3/8/44: TOL 23/9/1846: Constable - drunk on duty. 17/11/1846: Dismissed. 23/3?/1839 (looks like a 3): Certificate.
