1839, 19 October: CASSIMS is on a list of prisoners sentenced to transportation per “Water Witch” from Port Louis, Mauritius, to Van Diemen’s Land by the Criminal Court of the Colony of Mauritius. He is described as: married, aged 25, a servant; tried for theft at the Assizes on 30 September, 1839, and sentenced to 7 years; brown complexion, brown eyes and brown hair; marks of smallpox on the face and body, right ear pierced, large mark of a burn on the left hand; 5'1"; native place Calcutta, East Indies; cannot read or write (see New South Wales, Australia Convict Ship Muster Rolls and Related Records, 1790-1849).
