Catharine (also spelt Catherine) Murphy was convicted at Cork County, Ireland on 4 Jan 1850 of stealing a cow. 10yr sentence. She departed, from Kingston, on the 'Duke of Cornwall' on 8 Jul 1850, arriving Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) 27 Oct 1850. Convict no. 51616. Catharine was a country servant, single, 30 yrs of age, 5', fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes. Catharine married Timothy (k/a Thady) Shea (ex convict, 'Emily 2') in April 1852 and was released to his care. 10 Aug 1852: must serve 5yrs before she can receive her Ticket of Leave. 18 Jul 1854: Ticket of Leave 17 Jul 1854: Being in a public house on a Sunday - 5 days cells. 22 Jul 1856 Conditional Pardon approved. Brothers: David, Donald. Sisters: Mary, Ellen. Note: Catharine applied to marry James Burns (free) 1851 but this was denied as James had applied to marry two different women. Shea children: male child (Timothy) b. 28/12/1854; d. 8/12/56 2yrs, Hobart. William b. 1/7/1857 Hobart female child b. 1/9/1859 Kingston, Tasmania. Catherine (Shea) died 14/9/1874 aged 54 yrs at Kingston, Tasmania. (Ref. 328/1874-35)
