1839, 19 October: CELESTIN is on a list of prisoners sentenced to transportation per “Water Witch” from Port Louis, Mauritius, to Van Diemen’s Land by the Criminal Court of the Colony of Mauritius. He is described as: single, aged 20, a labourer; tried for highway robbery at the Assizes on 28 September, 1839, and sentenced to life; brown complexion, brown eyes and short curly hair; lost ends of fingers of the left hand; 5'1½"; native place Riviere du Rampart, Mauritius; cannot read or write (see New South Wales, Australia Convict Ship Muster Rolls and Related Records, 1790-1849; 1840 Layton).
