On Monday last the Assizes commenced at Reading, when ... and Ann Chaddick, for house-breaking, and stealing wearing apparel and money, the property of Joshua Franklin, at Purley, were capitally convicted and received sentence of death. B. Josey, W. Dell, and Ann Chaddick, were reprieved were reprieved before the Judges left the town. Petition of Lovedy for confirmation of his wife's pardon to enable them to return to England; appears as Shedwick (Fiche 3166; 4/1847 p.142) n.d. On list of convicts who have received absolute pardons [Mar 1810] (Fiche 3292; 4/6974.1 p.79) -------------------------------------------------- 1810. To his Excellency, Lachlan Macquarie, Esq. Governor in Chief. The Petiton of Edward Lovedy Very Respectfully shewth That your Excellency’s Petitioner is a soldier belonging to the 102nd, these 17 years has elapsed and always has supported an irreproachable character. That Petitioner has a wife and three children and thro her good conduct since the period of her arrival in the Colony which is nearly 10 years has procured a free pardon lately through the benevolence of His Honor Colonel S? Who has been pleased to represent her as an object of charity especially being for Life as your Excellency’s owns that all such Indulgences granted lately to Individuals should be ?? into the Secretary’s Office. Petitioner is most humbly induced to supplicate your Excellency’s Humanity and Benevolence hoping you may be pleased to extend the Royal mercy towards her in absolutely ?lling her, her her heavy sentence as Petitioner means to take her and three children along with him when taking his departure from this Colony and as in duty bound, Petitioner, wife and three children will ever fervently pray, Edward Lovedy.
