At Bedford assizes, Gutley sheep stealing; John Hervey, Joseph Chapman, John and William Swales, for house breaking, were capitally convicted and received sentence of death, but were afterwards reprieved ; Northampton Mercury, 22 March 1817




Joseph was born about 1792. He was a labourer of Bedfordshire when sentenced and was sallow, brown hair, hazel eyes 5'2".
