Old Bailey Proceedings April 1829 JANE CHAPPEL ,Theft simple larceny 9th April 1829 971.Jane Chappel,was indicted for stealing,on the 9th of April,1 pewter pot,value 1s.6d., the goods of Mark Cullingford. MARK CULLINGFORD.I am a publican,and live in York street,Marylebone.The prisoner was brought to my house with this pot,which is mine;she was quite a stranger. CHARLES SAGE.On Thursday night last,I was informed a woman had taken a pot from the door,I went out,and followed the prisoner up William street-I took her with this pot under her shawl. Prisoners Defence.I stopped to tie up my stocking,a man and a woman came by;the man put his face close to mine,and I took up the pot which stood there merely to pretend that I stooped for that-I had not gone many yards when this gentleman took me. GUILTY.Aged 29 Transported for Seven Years.
