National Archives – Petition record - HO 17/50/54 - Date -1929 Sept 19. Description: 1 collective petition (11 people including minister and churchwardens from Chedworth, Gloucestershire) on behalf of Charity Stevens convicted at Warminster Sessions in Wiltshire in July 1829 for stealing 2 donkeys. Gaoler's report: character not known, behaves well in gaol. Grounds for clemency: only 18 years old, good honest character, 'seduced away from parents' 7 weeks before crime by Thomas Andrews who was also convicted at same time. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Annotated: for penitentiary. HO54.
