Tried at the Old Bailey, 9 Dec 1830. 43. CHARLESÂ GORNALLÂ was indicted for stealing, on the 4th of November , 2 pairs of boots, value 25s. , the goods of William Goodburn . SUSANNAH EVANS . I live opposite the prosecutor's shop. On the 4th of November, some time after four o'clock in the afternoon. I saw the prisoner and another lad near the prosecutor's door; I watched them, and saw the other lad, who seemed older than the prisoner, take the boots from the side of the door - he did not go into the shop; he gave them to the prisoner, who had been close by when he took them - the prisoner walked away, and the other followed him; I gave an alarm, and saw them taken; they had not gone far from the house. WILLIAM JONES . I am a constable. I received information on the 4th of November, and took the prisoner, about three hundred yards from the shop, with these boots. HENRY NEWMAN . I am shopman to Mr. William Goodburn . These boots are his property; I know nothing of the prisoner, but I had seen the boots five minutes before they were missed. Prisoner's Defence. The other boy gave them to me, and asked me to carry them towards Islington. GUILTY . Nine Received from Newgate, 21 Dec 1830. Charles Gornall, age 12, Stg 2 pr boots, Tried Middlesex, 9 Dec 1830, 7 years. NSW per L. Lyndock, 24 May 1833. Charles was one of 50 lads from the hulk Euryalus who were boarded onto the Lord Lyndoch for transportation.

He gained his Certificate of Freedom in 1838 & married Eliza Ann (Gardiner) on 12 12 1844 at CofE Kelso. He died on 27 1 1874 age56 at Bathurst where he was buried. She arrived in Australia in 1844 on THERESA & in Bathurst in that year. She became a grocer storekeeper for Mr (Lawson) in Bathurst. In 1878 she built a four-room residence & shop in Keppell St where she traded & lived until her death, which occurred on 12 12 1912 age about88 at Bathurst. changing the date of death as I have his death certificate and it states died 27th January 1874 buried in 28th January 1874, he was my GGGF
