Henry Childe was transported on the Andromeda, departing 16th Oct 1826 and arriving 23rd Feb 1827 with 147 passengers.
Also, same day, from Cork, whence she sailed May 25th, the ship Andromeda, 401 tons, Benjamin Gales master, with 173 female prisoners; Henry Kelsawl, Esq., Surgeon-superintendant. Passengers — Fourteen free females, viz. Mary Manning, Martha Morron, Margaret Mahon, Margaret Sheedy, Mary Ann Nixon alias Welsh, Catherine Kiernan, Mary Cassock, Catherine Stanton, Johanna Neville, Mary Lyons alias Hynes, Maria Moran, Catherine O'Donnel, Margaret Kennedy, and Mary Sullivan, and twenty-six children; also twenty-three children belonging to the prisoners. The following convicts were last week removed from our county gaol, preparatory to their being transported for the terms to which they were severally sentenced: For Life. —Henry Childe, aged 33, for robbing his employers, Messrs. Richards and Co. of this town ; ... Aris’s Birmingham Gazette, 29 May 1826.




Place of origin: Wistanstow, Shropshire 1826 - TRIAL; 25 March 1826 No; 776. Aged; 35 years old. Trade; Clerk and Shepherd 1834 - Colonial Times (Hobart, Tas. : 1828 - 1857) Tue 8 Apr 1834. Page 7 Hobart Town Police Report. Henry Child, a very old servant of Mr. Baynton's, employed many years as his clerk, in a confidential and trustworthy way, was this day charged with breaking open his master's counting-house, and stealing therefrom divers monies. It appeared from the evidence of Mr. Frampton (Mr. Baynton's new clerk), that he left the premises to the care of Child on the evening preceding the robbery, and the next morning it was discovered. After a full investigation, the prisoner was discharged without any suspicion attached to his conduct. 1839 - Conditional Pardon 1843 - POSSIBLE INQUEST. Name: Childe, Henry. Age: 57. Date of inquest: 10 Mar 1843 Verdict; Died from violent blows on the head with an iron headed hammer. stuck by Henry Smith. Colonial Times. Tue 14 Mar 1843. Page 3. HORRIBLE MURDER. On Thursday last, about nine o'clock in the forenoon, the body of Henry Childe, the confidential servant of Mr. H. Baynton, was found barbarously murdered at Mr. B.'s residence at Sandy Bay. A Coroner's Inquest was held on the body, and a verdict of Wilful Murder returned against a man named Smith, whom Childe had given permission to remain on the premises till Mr. Baynton's return from the country.
