Dorset County Chronicle Dorset, England 30 Dec 1830: Outrageous Robbery.—Nicholas Freemantle, aged 30 ; Abraham Childs, aged 48 ; Beniamin Harding, aged 38 ; Jas. Cropp. aged 25 ; Charles Brummell, aged 23; William Primer, aged 34; and James Glasspoole, aged 30 were indicted, charged with having, on the 22d of November, at the parish of Carhampton feloniously stolen from John Watts one sovereign and three half-crown, his monies. **These were machine breakers, 300 arrived at the house, armed with various offensive weapons, Childs acted as an officer, several of the mob demanded the money. Abraham Childs was listed as 50 years old on arrival. Native Place: Hampshire. Occupation: Indoor servant/groom/labourer. Abraham could read, was protestant, married - a widower with 6 male and 1 female children, 5'5¾" tall, dark ruddy complexion, dark red mixed with grey hair, grey eyes. Assigned to J.? Maquoid, Sydney. 30/1/1835: Abraham Childs died at the No. 2 Stockade, Bathurst, aged 52.




The Convict Annotated Indentures for the Eleanor state that all the convicts on board were transported for machine breaking except for Thomas Davis (Warehouse breaking); George Smets (or Smits) (Receiving stolen iron) and Pierre Tuite or Pierce Tait (for embezzlement). The last three convicts were convicted at Graham’s Town on Cape of Good Hope. They joined the ship at Cape of Good Hope.
